THE FOUNDATION
The history of M.H Dadabhoy Group begins in 1918 when a young entrepreneur
Ali Mohammad A. Latiflanded in south Africa and started a trading house.
He was soon able to open a departmental store and was poised to explore
new vistas in business when he left for his heavenly abode at the young
age of thirty five.
Later, Mr. Abdul Ghani Dadabhoy, posthumous son of Mr. Ali Mohammad
A. Latif, set up a trading house and a soap factory.
The Dadabhoy saga of entrepreneurship and success in Pakistan began
about fifty years ago when (Late) Mr. Abdul Ghani Dadabhay
made Karachi his home.
Immediately after settling in Karachi he set up a trading house encompassing
a wide range of business. He started businesses based on cotton ginning, oil
plants and construction. Sheer hardwork, professional commitment and vision
provided the foundation for the establishment of a solid industrial base.
Cement, Sanitaryware, Plasticware, Lubricants, Paper Sacks,
Prefabricated Construction Material and Agricultural Equipment were some of
the areas of Interest to the Dadabhoy Group. Subsequently, Leasing
and insurance companies were also added.

DADABHOY CEMENT INDUSTRIES LIMITED
Dadabhoy group was among the very first to enter the cement sector soon after
its reopening for private enterprise. The group decided in April 1978 to set
up a 1000 metric tonnes per day capacity portland cement plant. This plant
was incorporated in August 1979.
Since the Government of Paksitan was keen to patronize local machinery and
know-how, the Dadabhoys decided on another first. They opted for a plant
fabricated by the Heavy Mechanical Complex, Taxila. This was the first
cement plant to be fabricated in Pakistan. The Taxila Heavy Mechanical Complex
got the necessary expertise and license from the world renowned manufacturers
of cement plants, Fuller International Inc. of the USA. The dadabhoy-HMC deal
proved to be a milestone in creating confidence and self-reliance in the
country's heavy industrial sector.
The plant was set up at Kalu Kohar in Dadu District of Sindh, which is about
84 kilometers from Karachi on the Super Highway.
Dadabhoy Cement Industries, Limited (DCIL) went into commercial production
in 1986. The production, however, was not adequate to meet the growing
demand for cement. The management, therefore, decided to go for optimization
and enhance the plant capacity from the initial 1000 tonnes per day (TPD)
to 1500TPD. Dadabhoy cement went public in late 1991 and thus increased its
capital from Rupees 300 to 600 million.
DCIL is one of the pioneers in introducing slag cement in Pakistan.
The contribution of Dadabhoy Cement is quite significant. This first
indigenously designed and fabricated cement plant is fully functional
and producing in excess of half a million tonnes of cement annually.
DCIL is a prime example of the immense love and devotion the Dadabhoy's
have for the country and of their bold entrepreneurship.

DADABHOY SACK LIMITED
Dadabhoy Sack limited, formerly known as Paper Pro industries Limited, is a
leading kraft paper sack manufacturer catering to the needs of packaging in cement
industries.
A fully operational public limited company, it is capable of producing 45000
paper sacks per shift or 150,000 sacks per day. The company will be raising
its shares captial very soon to meet optimzation needs.
The plant is located on the main Super Highway adjacent to Dadabhoy Cement
Industries to be able to supply the major portion of its production to the
sister concern. The company's surplus production is supplied to cement plants
in the vicinity.
This Rs.1000 million modern manufacturing facility was commissioned in 1985.
The plant is a product of sophisticated German technology with tuber machines
from Gigant Gmbh and tow-end multiwalled Bottomer from Windmollar and Holsher
GmbH.
The project was financed by United Bank Limited.
Flush cut paper bags are manufactured using only the finest paper reels
from Austria, Canada and Sweden. The plant utilizes a controlled manfacturing
environment maintaining relative humidity at 50% during dry weather, and
conducting grammage, strength and elongation tests of raw
materials using electronic devices to produce a premium quality product at
competitive prices. Quality is the most vital part of the manufacturing
and management system at Dadabhoy Sack Limited.

PAK GERMAN PREFABS LIMITED
The Dadabhoy group, which has been involved in the construction sector for a
number of years, realized that the solution to the ever-present urban housing
problem needed augmentation of the conventional method of construction.
Their technical team studied techniques and processes applied for this purpose
in the developed countries and their directors also visited Europe to learn
first hand how low-cost houses were being built there. They found that prefabricated
construction provided a quick and cost-effective solution to the problem.
In August 1981 PGPL was incorporated as a public limited company for producing
quality prefabricated construction material and undertake other construction.
The project was financed by Banker's Equity Limited.
Ebel Bau GmbH of Germany supplied the complete plant and machinery with the
capacity to produce 1000 low-cost houses per year. The machinery included
concrete batching and mixing plant with accessories, concrete block making
machine and tiling table with moulds. A part of the machinery was manufactured
locally. Later other machinery for making elements used in contructing
multistoreyed buildings, bridges and flyovers was added.
The company produces a wide range of prefabricated construction items such as
Double Tees, Beams, Purlines, Rafters, Roofslabs and Wall Panels.
In addition to manufacturing precast elements and constructing over 500
precast housing units for Dadabhoy Cement Industries, PGPL has also
undertaken several conventional construction works.

DADABHOY CONSTRUCION COMPANY (PRIVATE) LIMITED
This company was incorporated in 1975 and has since then been actively
engaged in the construction of multi-storeyed buildings, commercial complexes,
low-cost houses, villas, etc.
It has paid special attention to housing needs of low income groups who cannot afford expensive flats and houses and do not have the financial capacity to pay the full price. The company has launched a number of schemes which specially cater to the needs of such people and brings home ownership within their reach through easy inst
alments plans. The company also has the distinction of introducing low cost
housing in Pakistan based on prefabricated housing components

DADABHOY ENERGY SUPPLY COMPANY LIMITED
The changing market tendencies demand increased emphasis on curtailing cost of power
production as well operational and maintenance costs.
Dadabhoy Energy Supply Company Limited (DESCL) was therefore conceived as
a captive power generation plant to supply uninterruptable power to the
three Dadabhoy Group of industries, DCIL, DSL and PGPL at less than
WAPDA rates.
The power plant wil be located adjacent to Dadabhoy Cement Industries.
The 15.2MW power plant is to have four 3.8MW generator sets with modular
compatibility running on heavy fuel oil. These generators have been obtained
from M/s Stork Wartsila of Holland.
The Cement plant wil benefit the most from this consistent power supply as it
will prevent damage caused to the cement machinery by unstable power supply.
It will also be more economical and support increased production.
DESCL in an equity based project with highly lucrative earnings per share for
the public shareholders. The internal rate of return throughout the project's
life is expected to be 27%.
The project is in an advanced stage of implementation and is likely to commence
operation by mid 1997.

DADABHOY TRADING CORPORATION (PRIVATE) LIMITED
Dadabhoy Trading Corporation (Private) Limited (DTC) was incorporated in 1988.
Its current paid-up capital is Rupees 50 million.
DTC is dedicated to trading, particularly imports and exports.
The main activity, currently, is the export of garments and rice. However,
DTC is capable of handling all trade categories.
In the near future DTC will be undertaking the export of other value-added items
DTC has substantial investments in other companies.
